The year in review
In 2023, we had a number of wonderful events. The year began with Archivist Jean Hankins presenting on the proprietors of Otisfield and ended with an amazing presentation from local blacksmith Ryan Adams, owner of Bell Hill Forge. We also had our most successful Strawberry Festival yet, serving more attendees than ever before.
Remembering our founder
In sadder news, the society mourned the loss of founder and Director Emeritus Ethel Bean Turner, who died in October. Without Ethel and her dedication, the society would not exist.
Thanking our volunteers
In the fall, long-time board member and Treasurer Polly Bartow retired from the board to focus her efforts on the major renovations needed for the Bell Hill Meetinghouse. We thank Polly for all of her tremendous work for the society through the years. Additionally, long-time Archivist Jean Hankins has stepped back from the role, though she will continue on the board and provide guidance to our new Archivist Maureen Mooney-Howard.
Preserving the Town House
As we look forward, the society will begin fundraising and grant-writing to repair or replace the front-steps on the Old Town House, to ensure the continued safety of all who visit our programs and archives.
Sharing our history
We continue to maintain our website at otisfield.org and our Facebook page at Facebook. Additionally, we continue to upload past programs to YouTube.

Visit and support the archives
From May through October, someone will be present at the Town House every Wednesday afternoon from 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM to aid anyone who wants to do historical research in our archives. We encourage you to join the society and explore the history of Otisfield.
