Arlington Heights, Virginia Camp Tom Casy Nov 14 1862 [date incorrect?]
My Best Father & Mother, I thought i would write you a few lines to let you know that I am well and hope that this may find you the same yours of the 9th recieved last night and was glad to hear from you but was sorry to here that you was not growing better instead of worse i get along tip top most of the time it is warm here now and our new Barracks are going up double quick we have got them partly done our buildings are made of logs one on top of the other and to stop up the cracks board roof i shall be glad when we got into them although it is comfortable in tents now but perhaps in 2 hours it will be cold enough to have 3 coats on i have not had anny cold to amount to anny thing since i came from Portland we are going to have Fresh Beef for dinner we live good enough for anny boddy Johnithan Smith was here this morning just returning to his Regt an[d] Josiah Maxfield of Naples of the 10th me Regt. i have got Clothes enough at present you said that you counted the days and weeks and Months till 9 of them has past away if you was here you could not count them as soon as on of the sundays is gone annother comes it does not seem as if i had ben here more than 1 week but i long for the time when the 9 months or rather seven has past. i am not sick of it yet have got to go out on Battalion Drill so i must dry up i recieved the stamps and write as often as you can you kneed not wait for me to write to you as i may not be so that i can so good by for this time.
